Temporary Closure Notice
Temporary closure of Sengan-en, Shoko Shuseikan Museum, and Shimadzu Satsuma Kiriko Glassworks
In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and for the safety and well-being of our guests and staff we have decided to close Sengan-en, the Shoko Shuseikan Museum, and the Shimadzu Satsuma Kiriko Glassworks until Thursday 9th July, 2020.
Throughout June we will be opening on a partial basis for residents of Kagoshima Prefecture, operating a series of special tours. No more than 20 people into the grounds per day, and we will be introducing special new services and content catered to post-COVID tourism.
This is a very rare chance to experience Sengan-en privately and will include special access to areas of the house and gardens, new courses and experiences recreating the hospitality shown to royal visitors from overseas, and much more.
We will also be using June as an opportunity to implement stringent sanitation and safety measures for our staff, and implementing technology to reduce unnecessary contact going forward. We recognize the need to be flexible and adaptive to the “new normal” that we will all face in the wake of this global pandemic. It is our hope that these challenging times will offer us the opportunity to improve our approach to tourism and add value for future visitors to Kagoshima and Sengan-en.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this matter, and sincerely look forward to welcoming you at Sengan-en once it is safe for you to travel again.
An announcement regarding re-opening will follow
